How did the Hunley submarine help the South during Civil War?

0

It was the first submarine to sink an enemy ship. That was its first mission. Something that I thought was interesting is that It went into service, sank a ship, sank, and went out of service ALL IN THE SAME DAY. Truthfully, all it did for the Confederates was sink a ship, but it did inspire others to start research on the submarine, so it’s main achievement in life was the introduction of the possibility of submarine warfare and submarines in general. For the south, all it did was sink a boat and kill all 32 of its crew.
