How did the Groups internationalisation process arise?
The internationalisation of Jernimo Martins was a natural evolution of the Distribution business. Faced with the limits of the domestic Food Distribution market and the administrative obstacles that made the development of the business difficult, the Group decided to expand to markets with the scale and potential for growth but without the same level of competition as in the mature markets of Western Europe and the United States. This led to the decision to expand to the Polish market in 1995.
