How did the french and indian war permanently alter the power structure in North America?

The French and Indian War occurred in the 1750s in north America (excluding Mexico, which is considered part of north America). It was a war between the French & their Indian allies…and the British (which included the British American colonists) and their indian allies. It was a war to determine who would control north America, the British or the French. The British won and were the dominant power in north America until the colonists revolted (in 1776), defeated them (1781, I think, and ironically with some help from the French!!) and created the United States of America.
