The loss of Quebec by France meant their was no local threat to the American colonies. And the Americans were, overall, more anti-Catholic than the British. This is a significant reason why the largely French speaking inhabitants of Quebec did not support the American revolutionaries, even though France itself was an ally of the Americans.
