How did the events of September 11, 2001 affect you?
I was in a very dark place in my life on that day, and my sister was getting married four days later. I was to fly on September 12th in order to get home to serve as maid of honor in my sister’s wedding. I was in an emergency room that evening, and came home to try to figure out how I was going to get home to Ohio for the wedding. My sister’s fiance called me that evening and said that my sister really needed me and wanted me to be there…he did this after his own brother (the best man to be) called from New York to say that he had watched the whole entire ordeal from his desk and wouldn’t be traveling home for the wedding. I did end up getting home, fortunately (rented one of the last rental cars available) after driving 15 hours. I just held my sister and loved my family like no other!!! Those five days of my life changed my life forever! After traveling back to Iowa, it really became clear that I needed to be closer to home and with my family and away from the negativity and darkne
