How did the events in the 1980s contribute to the way Afghanistan is today?
The previous posts were quite strong. I would say that the disfiguration of the land, the political experience, as well as to the daily way of life were all realities of the 1980s that left marks on modern Afghanistan. Much in the same way that Vietnam was forever transformed with its conflict with America, Afghanistan was impacted by its conflict with the Soviet Union. Along with the death toll being so high, even higher were the numbers that emigrated out of the nation and did not return. The basic elements of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and irrigation sources were forever altered and left unattended for so long, helping to cut off different parts of the nation from one another. The presence of land mines that were undetonated made the process of rebuilding that much more difficult and even non-existent in some areas.
