How did the English Defence League become the largest Nationalist street movement in British political history?
It didn’t. Because it isn’t a Nationalist street movement, it’s a racist hooligan street movement. And many other ‘street movements’ have been larger and much more popular. The ANL marches opposing the National Front in the late 1970s numbered people in the tens, ocasionally hundreds of thousands, while anti-poll tax and anti-war movements since have approached one million participants. The EDL has had no success – it’s just an excuse for a few hundred hooligans to get pissed and shout anti-Islamic and other racist abuse. It’s interesting that you, as a BNP Gold Member, are such an ardent supporter of EDL, despite the BNP’s alleged proscription of the EDL! Many of us believe that EDL are a BNP controlled organisation, formed by Griffin to provoke racial violence on British streets, with BNP activist Chris Renton being the key link.
