How did the district determine what facilities to include in the bond election?
In 2009, HISD performed a district-wide facility assessment, studying each of our campuses in terms of architectural, structural, mechanical and general building conditions and handicap accessibility standards. Since that time, the District has been evaluating options to address our facilities. This summer, the District presented a plan to a citizens’ facility study committee for feedback and input. The committee helped refine the plan and made a recommendation to the Board as to which projects to place on the November ballot. On August 20, 2010, the Board called a bond election for $39,200,000 for the projects recommended by the committee.
