How did the Department of Interior arrive at these fishway prescriptions?
The fish passage prescriptions are based on the best biological and engineering information available. Preliminary Fish Passage Prescriptions were developed over a period of several years by the biological and engineering staff of the Service, in consultation with the Applicant (PacifiCorp), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG), Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), affected Tribes (Klamath, Karuk, Hoopa Valley, and Yurok Tribes), the Klamath Intertribal Fish and Water Commission, and other entities that have participated in this relicensing proceeding. The Department’s Preliminary Prescriptions were modified based upon additional consideration of the available evidence as well as equal consideration to the effects of the prescriptions and alternatives on energy supply, distribution, cost, and use; flood control; navigation; water supply; air quality; and the preservation of other aspects
