How did the Conservancy get the photographers involved?

The black-and-white and color photographs of In Response to Place were commissioned by The Nature Conservancy in celebration of our 50th Anniversary. Each photographer was asked to respond to the specific experience of a site (or sites) toward which he or she felt a special affinity; the sites were selected from some 200 projects located throughout the U.S., as well as Central and South America and the Pacific Rim that The Nature Conservancy has designated Last Great Places.
