How did the collaboration with the Columbus Childrens Choir come about?
Last summer at the Columbus Arts Festival [Sandra Mathias, CCC artistic director] mentioned she’d love to work with us sometime. A month later, their board president has an idea of doing “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and said our name came up as a first choice and asked us to do it. We were very honored to be approached to do this collaboration. How long have the two groups been working on the production? We started rehearing separately back in January. Our choreographer did a couple of rehearsals with each group and then we started working together at the beginning of March. Seeing it come together for first time was pretty fantastic. The cast is made up of 65 men and 55 children. Joseph’s being played by Brent Raybrun, who’s one of our own, and the narrator role is being played by played by Antoinette Vargo, an alumnus of the children’s choir. Joseph’s 11 brothers are all from men’s chorus, and there’ll also be extra dance number added featuring many of the children.
