How did the California camp prepare the team for the road trip to Reno?
“It was a dress rehearsal. We had some kids that were late, but now they understand the importance of following an itinerary. They understand they have to wear certain clothes for certain events, be at the bus at a certain time and meeting curfews. They are 16- and 17-year-olds. Sometimes they forget and sometimes they are not prepared. I think we got a lot of that stuff out of the way.” How did the football aspect of the California trip go? “We practiced twice a day, went to the beach and Magic Mountain. We had the chance to practice with Corona Centennial (Calif.), the defending state champions, and they also had Beaumont and Ontario Colony, which won the state title two or three years ago. It was a great chance for our linemen and skill people to test themselves against top programs.” The expectations have been high for the program for years now, but every year is a new season.
