How did the British phrase “silly money” originate?
I wouldn’t have thought it’s an obscure origin as it just means paying so much it’s silly, and is certainly a cockney expression although that may not be the source. It doesn’t appear in the Dictionary of Slang, which would probably back the theory up as it usually only has phrases which need an explanation beyond the normal meaning.
