The government censored everything from film to posters. Censorship meant that parts of articles/pictures or other items that were found unsuitable were either removed or edited out. Sometimes even whole articles would be removed. News articles were written by the government and photos that were considered too harsh, such as a picture of the debris of a Girls school in Catford, which was not allowed to be published. Censorship was not always simply banning the photograph , it also could involve publishing edited photos, one photo of St. Paul’s Cathedral was modified to increase the amount of smoke in the picture and show St. Paul’s Cathedral majestically rising from within the smoke.
