How did the bridal line come about?
M.Y.: “We launched an off-the-rack capsule bridal collection at Bergdorf Goodman in New York in 2008, but it wasn’t until [designer] Georgina Chapman got married [to super producer Harvey Weinstein) that the idea came about to launch a full collection. The line has 16 dresses, including 3 shorts options for girls who want a style for the rehearsal, something to change into after the ceremony or prefer the look for a beach wedding.” FLARE: What are the similarities and differences between the ready-to-wear line and the bridal line? M.Y.: “First and foremost Georgina and [partner] Keren [Craig] didn’t want the bridal like to be Marchesa’s regular dresses, but just made in white. There had to be enough difference between the two collections, plus we had a situation in the past where a bride wore a white Marchesa gown for her wedding but had a guest show up in the same exact dress just in a different colour.
