The Berlin wall was part of the iron curtain. It was constructed in 1961, i believe, and dismantled in 1989. After WWII, Germany was divided into 4 subcategories, each headed by one of the Allied Nations (America, France, Britain, and the Soviets per the Potsdam agreement. Because of the Cold war, America, France and Britain’s parts joined together to protect West Germany, but thSovietss controlled East Germany. Soviett border guards had shooting orders to kill anyone trying to escape into West Germany, away from the communist society, into capitalistic democratic West Germany. Despite the west side being the larger side, it was surrounded by communist countries, therefore it was still powerless and isolated. The wall stood until the late 80’s, amid much protesting from the West side (they protested that the wall still stood) and the East Side (people yearning for freedom).
