How did the battle of Vimy Ridge Contribute to the independence of Canada?

Primarily, because we proved that we “colonials” could get things done. Vimy Ridge was the crucible that eventually led to the Treaty of Westminster in 1931 in which we got our full independance in terms of international relationships instead of having to go through England . Was it not for our victory where the French and British armies had failed, WW1 would have lasted a lot longer. Our turning the tide of the war in a decisive battle was enough to put the Canadian troops on the map as a professional fighting force and showed the world that we were more than just the militia of a recently self-governing ex-colony.
