The Ducks scored early, and they made those goals count. They won all four games in which they scored first, and they won every game when leading after one period. Over the six games, the Ducks only averaged 26 shots per game; lower then even the Tampa Bay Lightning’s league-lowest of 27.5 shots per game during the regular season. While the playoffs often lend themselves to a tighter defensive game, only the New York Rangers own a lower shot per game average in the first round. The Ducks may not have shot much, but they certainly made those shots count. The biggest reason for the Ducks success might be goaltender Jonas Hiller. Despite facing an average of 38.3 shots per game from some of the most dangerous snipers and play-makers in the league, the 27 year-old, Swiss goaltender only allowed 1.67 goals per game, and posted two shutouts.
