How did the Alpine Lynx breed get started?
Timberline originally introduced the white color gene into the Desert Lynx and Highland Lynx breed group by acquiring two white female kittens that were descended from a free-roaming domestic silver and white female cat that had been bred in the wild. The owner of this cat believed that her female had been bred by a large white cat which she had spotted in the area and believed to be a white bobcat. We found that this white gene was a dominant gene just as the white gene in other domestic cats.
