She kept England Protestant, keeping science alive there while the Church was trying to strangle it on the Continent. This led eventually to Newton and beyond. Her reign gave us Shakespeare, the greatest playwright in history, whose works have inspired countless others. She apparently encouraged his career. Her encouragement and support of explorers and adventurers like Drake and Raleigh combined with her defeat of Spain in 1588 ensured an English (later British) colonial presence in the Americas. This eventually led to the English speaking and British inspired United States of America, which has had some slight impact on world history. It also brought us the blessings of tobacco. The age of British exploration she began resulted ultimately in the settlement of that true apex of Western Civilization, Australia.
