How did the 26th amendment affect the United States?
I am not sure what you mean by affect. It made people eligible to vote at the age of eighteen in all public elections. By most measures more younger voters supported Obama than Mccain by a margin of 68% to 30% so they may have been the difference. According to the US census however, young voters have the lowest turnout rate of all of the age groups so it is difficult to say what the final impact was. If there is an affect it is probably that candidates have to at least consider what younger voters want or believe in. This was not the case when I was eighteen over forty years ago. Most politicians just ignored people under twenty-one.
