How did Suffragettes movement prevent the womens vote being granted by the government?
Ignore the person above. They evidently haven’t a clue. The suffragettes were constantly thrown out of meetings for assaulting police officers, causing disruption and obstruction, broke windows in Oxford street, organised arson attacks on churches, MP’s homes, vandalised golf courses, and so on. This prevented the vote being granted because the government did not want to be seen to be bowing to terrorism, basically. Also, especially after Emily Wilding Davison threw herself under the King’s horse at the Derby and was killed, people asked if this is what educated women do, how can we possibly be seen to give them and even less educated women the vote? In many ways their actions proved the argument that women were not level-headed enough or intelligent enough to use the vote properly – remember the posters showing a woman selling her vote for a box of chocolates.
