How did soldiers prevent trench foot in WW1?

Trench foot was when ure feet became saturated, and therfore began to rot. So the best way to prevent it was by changing ure socks often so ure feet stayed dry. Try and stay out of water and wet muddy parts of trench. Plus have watertight boots, or change them often. However all of these things were very difficult to do, such as if ure boots leaked then no amount of clean, dry socks wud do anything. U cud rub vasalene or fat etc on ure feet, which wud mean they wud be water resistant.
