How did slaves escape the underground railroad?

0

by Engl1sh: Slaves were taken through a system of designated houses/barns that were marked in some way by either a flag or a quilt. The people who owned the “safehouses” would then harbor the slaves for a certain (safe) amount of time, keeping them in places such as a large closet or hiding them in a cellar area. Trap doors were made in the floor boards of houses and hidden by placing a rug over them. The house owners would feed and cloth the slaves, and would wait for a chance to safely escort the slaves to the next “safehouse”. Slaves would make their way North following the Northern star and the directions of the many people who led them to freedom. Hope this helps, please recommend me!
