How did Selena die?
She was killed by the manager of her fan club, a woman named Yolanda Saldívar, on March 31, 1995. Saldívar claimed to be Selena’s biggest fan and eventually became her fan club manager. Eventually Selena learned that Saldívar had been embezzling money from the fan club, so Selena contacted Saldívar and told her to meet her at a Days Inn in Corpus Christi (Selena’s hometown). The meeting took place as arranged; unfortunately Saldívar brought a pistol with her. Upon arrival, Selena dumped several papers on the bed, proving that Saldívar had embezzled, and Selena promptly told Saldívar that she was fired. In response to being fired, Saldívar pulled out her pistol and pointed it at Selena. Selena tried to run away but Saldívar shot her in the back. Selena managed to stay conscious long enough to stumble into the lobby and name Saldívar as her killer. Soon after the fallout, Selena agreed to meet Saldívar in a Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi on the morning of March 31, 1995 in order to retrieve paperwork for tax purposes.
