How did scientists create the molds of people and animals killed by Vesuviuss 79 Ad explosion?
People and animals that died were afterwards covered with coal dust from the eruption. The sediments were extremely fine-grained and they preserved even small details of the people who died there, thus creating natural casts (negatives). In the 1860s, researchers were able to fill the casts with plaster to create molds(positives). Once the casts were broken, these molds were seen to be extremely detailed reproductions of those bodies.
