How did Salt n Pepa come up with the name of their group?
Salt N Pepa came up with the name salt n pepa by accident. The group was originally called SuperNature when they first hit the underground rap scene in New York in the mid eighties. The first song they recorded as SuperNature was called “The Showstopper” which was an “answer record” or “dis record” that made fun of Doug E. Fresh and Slick Ricks record titled “The show.” In one of the verses from the song the ladies referred to themselves as the salt and pepper Mc’s. the lyrics went as followed. right now gonna’ show you how it’s supposed to be cause we, the Salt and Pepper emcees’s will chance the circumstance, rock your pants After referring to themselves as the salt and pepper emcees with cheryl “salt” being the light skinned one and sandra “pepa” denton being the darker skinned member the name sort of stuck and them along with their producer Hurby Luvbug officially changed the name of the group from SuperNature to Salt-N-Pepa. “The Showstopper” which was SuperNature’s B.K.A.
