How did Queen of Hearts come to be?
I was doing several pop-up shops in empty retail locations throughout downtown. One of them I did with the Providence Design Collective. The opportunity to open a retail boutique downtown came to us through Francis Scire (who used to work for Cornish Associates) and Peter Bramante (of the Arts & Business Council). In 2006, they approached Devon King and me about occupying and opening a store at the Space at Alice at 186 Union Street. The incentives were good and so we moved in. We were located there up until March 1st of this year and we just relocated around the corner, where we are today on Westminster Street. How’s the new location going so far? Size was the primary reason we moved. We definitely outgrew our little tiny 380-square-foot space. Also having my studio in the store and being able to work on my line while I’m here, as opposed to going to another location, has been a real eye-opening experience to see the difference that location really makes.
