How did Project ASTRO begin?
With startup funding mainly from the Informal Science Education Division of the National Science Foundation, Project ASTRO began as an experiment in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas during the 1993-1994 school year. Since then, the program has expanded to include 12 regional sites (see attached list) across the country, forming a “National Network” that exchanges information regularly.
