How did nationalism and alliances affect the start of World War 1?
* It can be said that World War I, at least for the Triple Entente, didn’t start because of hatred between countries, but rather for love and respect of the treaty and alliance between them, and it was an unfortunate spiraling down of events between smaller countries that subsequently caused alliances to be tested. Case-in-point: http://www.historyonthenet.com/WW1/cause… “A number of alliances had been signed by countries between the years 1879 and 1914. These were important because they meant that some countries had no option but to declare war if one of their allies declared war first.” * For this reason, each country was strong in its inhabitants, and declarations of war between major countries were enacted as a result of the treaty and/or alliance. * The entire domino effect that catapulted the globe into war was due to the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife by Gavrilo Princip. ~~~~
