How Did Mycenaean Art Influence Classical Greek Civilizations?
The Mycenaean Period Every civilization is based on the ruins of the one that came before it. The same is true even of ancient Greece, which many in the Western world view as the real beginning of modern culture. However, ancient Greek history is divided into more than one period. The earliest period, the Mycenaean period, is also called the Age of Heroes. Fortified structures, monumental art and architecture flourished. There were still warrior kings during this period that lasted from about 1600 B.C. to 1100 B.C. Art Mycenaean art, like Egyptian art, was practical, and it always served a purpose. The idea of art for the sake of art was something that hadn’t yet been developed. Art was used to dedicate buildings or structures to the multitude of gods; they were also used to record stories and histories.
