How did Mycenae govern themselves?
Mycenae was governed by Kings. In the Greek world of that time the King of Mycenae was the High-King and stood above all the other rulers of Greek City-States. You have a good example of the might of Mycenae in Homer. It is Agamemnon the King of Mycenae who stands at the head of the Greek confederate army and gets the biggest part of the spoils of war. Mycenae was the most powerful State of the West – Mediterranean during a period that lasts from 1400 till approx.1100 B.C. after the fall of Mycenae Greece would enter a Dark Period for about 400 years.
