How did Macedonian empire lasts through Alexander The Greats leadership?
Alexander was more or less constantly on campaign until his sudden death in 323 BC, so never ‘ruled’ over his empire as such. He often left local rulers in place in conquered areas as client kings (Porus in India is a good example). After his death, his senior generals (known as the Diadocchi) fought over his empire; after over 40 years of fighting, the empire was split into 3 parts (281 BC), more or less constantly at daggers drawn: Ptolemaic Egypt (included the Middle East) Antigonid Macedonia (included Greece and western Turkey) Seleucid Asia. The kingdom of Pergamum was not established until 263 BC, so was NOT one of the original Successor kingdoms.
