How did Leon Trotsky rise in to power?
That’s a long story! He first was won over to Marxism about 1897 and from then on was instrumental in working on developing a party dedicated to making change in Russia. As was the case for many major figures in the Communist party he made a number of changes in loyalty and position. However, by the time of the Russian Revolution in 1917-1918 he was a fullblown Bolshevik and an army leader on the side of the Red Army. The peak of his power was during and shortly after the Russian Civil War in 1918-1920. Following Lenin’s death, he had a falling-out with Stalin, was expelled from the Communist party and exiled from Russia and eventually assassinated.
