King Arthur was the son of King Uther. Although this was the case, legend tells us that there was a great competition for his role and it is told within an Arthurian legend. This story within Arthurian legend is known as the story of the “Sword in the Stone”. As such, this legend tells us that Arthur became king because he was found pulling the sword up out of the stone when many others could not.
