How did Kill and Cure come about?
The basic idea for the novel came from an incident that happened to me some years ago. I came out of a shop in my town centre and was approached by a policeman who asked me if I’d been in Debenhams. I hadn’t but he said there had been an incident there and that I fitted the description of the guy involved. His hands locked around my arm and I was marched passed throngs of shoppers to a waiting police car. He opened the back door and ‘helped’ me in. After that the door was locked shut and that’s where I stayed for the next fifteen minutes. During this time there were various police officers buzzing around the car, talking on radios and to each other, glancing every now and then in my direction. At some point another man arrived. He wasn’t in uniform but was obviously senior to the others. He pushed his face right up against the glass and stared at me. It seemed to go on for ages, but it could only have been a few moments before he snapped his head away and said, ‘That’s not him.’ After
