How did Jesus hint about the Atman?
Jesus hinted about the existence of the Atman on many occasions. When He told the disciples that they were to become perfect, even as His Father in heaven was perfect, this is what He meant. When He said that the kingdom of heaven is within us, He was speaking about illumination, as He was when He said our whole bodies were to become full of light. He often stated that people were to become “sons of God” and stated the qualifications for this status. He left out a precise description of the Atman because to have spoken of it would have necessitated the concept of reincarnation, which was left out of the Judeo-Christian tradition on purpose so that the principles of individual liberty and human rights could flourish, as they have done in the United States and elsewhere. Reincarnation is a reality, but Jesus could not talk about this without causing the whole world to follow the ways of the Hindus, and establishing a world-wide caste system.
