We bought remainders, but the best thing about the Independent Booksellers Consortium for the members was the opportunity it gave them to work together. They have that to some degree at American Booksellers Association but not as a nice tight knit little group. Does the IBC still exist? Yes, but the focus now is primarily on marketing. What happened was the remainder end of it worked for some of the members but not for all of them. They either couldnt or didnt want to handle the quantities. So it sort of migrated into a marketing clearinghouse. They get together and do things to market their stores as one brand entity. That was actually very good for them, but for me, as a wholesaler, it didnt really work. What did you do next? After four years, I bought the inventory from them and started a remainder wholesale company. That lasted about two years and then I went to work for Book Club of America as a buyer.
