How did Hitler and the Nazis deal with catholic and protestant churches in Germany?
When the Nazis invaded Yugoslavia (because the Italians were not able to secure the area) Croatia was granted illegal independence. The instructions were clear. The state and the church needed to round up all the Jews and Gypsies and exterminate them. The Croatian Ustashe nationalists had other plans. With the aid of the Catholic Church they rounded up Serbian Orthodox Christians, and began to exterminate them in concentration camps originally built for the Jews. Over a million Serbians were wiped out, not with gas or machine guns, but with a slaughter house method of cutting their throats and disemboweling them. Men, women and children were killed in this manner. The Catholic Church in Croatia advocated the action, many priests said it was “Gods will” to exterminate the Serbians. The Nazis were not happy about the actions of the Croatians or the Catholic Church, but did very little to stop them.
