How did helios become god of the sun?
Helios is the the son of Hyperion (the ‘Sun High-one’), one of the 12 original titans. Hyperion himself plays no role in Greek mythology other than being in the list of titans. Helios was believed to drive the chariot of the sun across the sky each day. He then used a great golden cup to sail round the oceans to get back to where he started. Later, Helios began to be associated with Apollo, an Olympian and also a sun god.
