How did George Armstrong Custer die?
Custer and his troops knew where the Indians were, and it was not an ambush – in fact he decided to attack the Indians where he did, his mistake was that he failed to estimate the enemy strength (numbers) correctly and was overwhelmed, more so when his forces were not at full strength. It was a brash decision, he was famous for those, and this one cost him and his men their lives.
On June 25, 1876, George Armstrong Custer and more than two hundred soldiers rode into the valley of the shadow of death. He recklessly advanced his troops knowing he was out-numbered. George Armstrong Custer was daring as always, choosing not to wait for reinforcements and marching instead into a fray from which no one would ever return.
