How did geographical boundaries and maps originate?

Wow, this is an impossible question to answer. The oldest known WORLD map is the Imago Mundi of 6th century BC Babylonia. Maps have been around forever. We don’t KNOW where maps originated. As for geographical boundaries, boundary markers have been used for centuries, letting travelers know that they have now entered the territory of a certain group of people, clan, tribe. What were they used for? To show possession, rulership, protection, to show what clan was where, for warnings against entering as certain area, to give directions to trading areas, to separate ownership, to separate fishing & hunting rights, etc. I read something once in a Discover magazine I think, where they found an ancient boundary marker they believe, out in the middle of nowhere in Egypt, the language on it was PRE-hieroglyphics, so they have no idea what it says. We’re talking ANCIENT BC here. We simply do not know where geographical boundaries and maps originated. They are too old. Even our oldest known maps
