How did frank sinatra influence music and history?
Sinatra was the first “teen idol” singer. Girls were known to scream and faint and his concerts (actually were paid to by his publicist at first). He was the first pop singer to directly appeal to youth rather than adults. He created and expanded an entire style of performance as a singer, inserting ad-libs and singing as “Frank” rather than in the persona of the song’s protagonist. He idolized Bing Crosby but it was his success as a cross-genre star that allowed Crosby to reach as wide an audience as he did. His influence on rock and roll and later pop traditions is almost immeasurable.
