How did female pilots contribute to the war in the air during World War II?
In the UK, female pilots were not allowed to take part in any fighting, but were often used as ferry pilots, for example to deliver new aircraft from the factories to the fighting units. Some of them were very capable pilots able to fly a remarkable range of different aircraft – probably much more able than the lightly-trained men to whom they were delivering the machines.
