How did Easter go from a celebration of some guy dying to egg laying rabbits?
Kris is correct. Like many other Christian holidays, Easter was a co-opted Pagan celebration. Early Christian leaders used manipulation of pagan holidays to make it easier for the pagans to make the adjustment to Christianity. Christmas, for example, fell at the time of Saturnalia to the Romans, Yule to Wiccans, etc. Every expert astrological/astronomical analysis suggests that Jesus’s actual birthday was during a grand constellation in Aries (March 21-April 19). Every major pagan faith has a celebration at that time. The egg came from the celebration of rebirth that occurs at the time of the Spring equinox (it is Mabon to some, Ostara to others, Winter Finding to others, etc.).
