How did different people respond to the news of world war 2?

Those people who fought through World War 1 would have been horrified that war had been declared again, as they knew what the previous war had been like. It would be hard on the wives and families as they knew that there would be shortages, rationing of food, men going to war – some never to return. This did not stop the young men signing up as they were all very patriotic and were probably out of work at the time. Signing up meant that they were clothed and fed and paid money so that they could support their families.
