How did Cicero attempt to save Roman republic?

0

He did at least two things: 1st: He tried to enlist Pompeius to help him save the republic, but he became a Triumvir. 2nd: With Caesar dead he pretended to help Octavian against Marcus Antonius, who was close to becoming a new dictator. However this was just a means to an end, as he thought that if Octavian defeated Antonius he could just brush him aside (Octavian was young, only about 18). He openly declared this, and Octavian was very offended. He Antonius and Lepidus formed the 2nd Triumvirate he proscribed a number of people, Cicero among them. Cicero refused to flee as many of the other Senators did and was killed.
