How did Children of Tomorrow get started?
When Tauheed Khan and Debra Ryan met at a squash club in New York City, they discovered that this sport wasn’t the only passion they had in common. They shared a dream: helping impoverished children in developing countries. Inspired by their own experiences and those of others – in particular that of ex-mountaineer Greg Mortenson who dedicated his life to educating children in Pakistan and Afghanistan (see his book Three Cups of Tea) – they agreed that education is the key to empowerment. Tauheed and Debra joined forces, and in 2008 created Children of Tomorrow. With this organization, they are making their dreams come true, without ever losing sight of reality. Their research showed that ICT (Information and Communication Technology) could have a real impact on education in developing countries and with a pragmatic outlook, Tauheed and Debra chose new technologies as their means of supporting the educational process of impoverished children.
