How did Charles Darwin come to his natural selection theory?
1. Darwin reached his Theory by observing and comparing the variations he saw in nature with what he knew about breeding of “desirable” traits by pigeon-breeders and farmers. He based his idea on a comparison of this “articial selection” to “natural selection,” a selection of “better” traits by Nature. 2. It affected the peppered moth (B. betularia) population because the newly darker tree trunks mae the dark moths harder to find, but the light-colored moths were preyed on more often. The population, as a whole, became darker-colored. 3. Variation within a species means that individuals vary in size, color, etc from other members of the species.
