Corrie Lazar was walking with two other counselors from the nearby Camp Laurel along Route 41 in Mount Vernon, Maine, when an approaching SUV lost control and ran into her, said Capt. Jon Perkins with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. Lazar was pronounced dead at the scene. A second counselor was rushed to a hospital in Augusta for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The third counselor dove into the woods as the SUV approached and was not injured. The driver of the SUV was also taken to a local hospital for treatment. Camp Counselor Struck, Killed 21-Year-Old Was Walking On Route 41 PORTLAND, Maine — An SUV struck and killed a pedestrian in Mount Vernon just before midnight Monday. Kennebec County deputies said summer camp counselor Corrie Lazar, 21, of Washington state, was killed on Route 41. She and two other counselors from Camp Laurel were walking back to camp when a sport utility vehicle driven by Joseph Rouleau, of Fayette, hit two of them, deputies said. Rouleau was taken to CMMC in Lewiston with injuries that were not life-threatening. Lazar died at the scene. Another counselor was struck and injured. The third dove into the woods as the vehicle approached, deputies said. The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office is investigating with Maine State Police and the Kennebec District Attorney’s Office. A camp counselor from Camp Laurel dies after being struck by a vehicle. The accident happened Monday on Rte 41 in Mt Vernon. The accident involved one vehicle and three pedestrians. According to Police, Joseph Rouleau of Fayette was driving a black 1995 Isuzu Trooper when he struck two of the three counselors They were walking back to camp Laurel. Rouleau received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to CMMC in Lewiston. Loyd Olson escaped injury by diving into the woods as the vehicle approached. Mia Jessep received non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Maine General in Augusta. 21-year-old Corrie Lazar was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful.
